CAVE by Melbourne Metal Collective

Organised by jewellers, for jewellers, the Melbourne Metal Collective was launched in 2011. The collective is comprised of seven local designers – Henson, Young Hunting, Estelle Dévé, Hamish Munro and new to the MMC in 2012 – O.T.T by Lia T, Alexandra Blak and Maripossa.

All seven designers have developed their very own strong identities, and are carried by leading boutiques in Australia and abroad. While their aesthetics are very different (some work with neon latex, others with Perspex, others with silver and gold) there is somehow a harmony of their personal aesthetics when observing their work as a collective.

The designer’s most recent works are currently featured in a temporary space in Melbourne’s timeless Curtin House. For two weeks only, their pop up store: CAVE will be acting as cave of wonders, filled with intriguing jewellery, one-offs and other curiosities which have inspired their collections.

CAVE will be open daily from 12 to 9pm until the 25th of March.

LMFF Style Notes – Frankie Runway / Independent Runway

Very excited to cheer on my friends Limedrop (showing at the Frankie Runway) and Lui Hon (showing at the Independent Runway) this evening at LMFF. I’m still experimenting with wearing my fringe in different ways while I grow it out. We had no hot water this morning so I couldn’t wash my hair… luckily the beauty of my dark floral Limedrop floral headband is the perfect attention stealer.

LMFF Style Notes – Opening Party

It’s the official opening of the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival tonight and I’m greatly looking forward to joining the beautiful Nadia who is down from Sydney at the opening party. Of course, I’ll have the pleasure of seeing many of my local and interstate blogging and industry friends tonight too.

This is definitely my favourite dress but I’ve only worn it two other times since it joined my wardrobe. On it’s first outing I very bravely wore it without a camisole underneath and used the magic of Hollywood Tape to make sure it didn’t reveal anything untoward. This evening the temperature is a little lower and I’m feeling a little less risqué.

Still loving my new low-maintenance hairstyle, though. Anything that requires less effort is warmly welcome during the madness of fashion week. Expect to see it a lot.

The Becoming

Yes – I’ve posted this track before. But it’s an all-time favourite of mine, and after seeing this beautiful artwork of the same name by Brendan Zhang, I couldn’t help but publish it again.

LMFF Style Notes – Penthouse Mouse Launch

I’m pretty excited to be heading off to the launch of Penthouse Mouse 12 tonight. Giving emerging and independent multi-disciplinary designers an innovative platform for promotion during the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival, Penthouse Mouse combines exhibition and retail space in order to provide visitors with an engaging experience like no other.

As I manifested in my New Year’s Resolutionwhen it comes to my wardrobe, I don’t have a “I mix high street with high fashion” philosophy; it encourages over-indulgence. I simply shop wherever I can find what I need. This agenda is about being discerning, not discriminating. Every part of my outfit for the event (except for my rings) has come from a cheap and cheerful chain store – but they all speak succinctly of my style and that’s why they were purchased. I loved the chiffon top so much I actually bought it in two colours.

I’m trying out centre-parting my hair; slicking my fringe down flat while I decide if I’m going to grow it out. I’ve worn my hair with some kind of fringe since about 2003, so going for the middle part terrifies me a little. I’ve got a widows peak, an uneven hairline and a cowlick which the fringe did a superb job hiding… but sometimes it’s just so high maintenance that I can’t stand it. What do you think?
