Gloaming Ring

As dusk falls upon the day, the Gloaming Ring sits enigmatic in the twilight. Not dark and not light, the surface treatment is moody and brooding, much like the Nebulous ring – only with more of a masculine form. The majority of the surface detail is across the top of the ring, it gently eases off around the shoulders and the back is quite plain and smooth. It’s not a shape I’d wear myself, I decided to do it because I receive a lot of commission requests from men – so I’m very curious to get feedback on it.

Stacked

I love stacking rings.

Many of the Alicia Hannah Naomi pieces I’ve been working on stack brilliantly together although they’re not specifically designed to; the organic edges to many of the bands find their own awkward puzzle-piece style fitting and sit together perfectly imperfectly.

Here are two combinations I wear frequently, but I find that the decay rings stack up against all rings equally well; especially each other.

The Eon Ring

The Eon Ring was designed around this beautiful chip of neon blue apatite I received a little while ago from one of my stone suppliers. I spent days fiddling with thin bands to set the stone on when finally I realised that for a fairly small chip, it needed to be balanced by something wider.

Finishing is my favourite part of manufacturing because it’s when you get to see your creation finally come to life. I started by giving it a very highly polished finish, which looked great against the neon blue; but did nothing to accentuate the organic detailing around the band. From there I decided to lightly oxidise it, but because I only used luke warm water the oxidisation process went through an oil-slick rainbow effect as it took on. The stone looked incredible against the multi-coloured cobalt/purple/green/grey finish. Unfortunately that kind of patina is very quick to wear off, even if sealed… so I sadly buffed it all back to the moody grey I’d originally intended. Lastly, I stripped the remaining oxidisation from around the stone setting to return it back to it’s bright white finish, adding a depth of contrast between the stone, the setting and the band itself.

I’m so satisfied with the outcome! I feel like I say it each time I produce something new but I do feel that the Eon Ring is my favourite design to date.  Although I don’t wear them often, working with stones adds a fantastic challenge when designing jewellery.

Smudge Pendant

The Smudge Pendant was made as a gift, and will not be available for sale. It is heavily oxidised sterling silver with a polished surface for a combined shine/matte finish. It has a small black crystal set into the base, barely visible from the front; and is presented on a 70cm sterling silver ball chain.

Decay Rings as Pendants

I’ve long been enjoying how the Decay Rings stack together on the hand, and now so too on the décolletage. The mix of finishes across the three rings adds depth to an otherwise fairly simple design. Worn short or long, the Decay Rings as Pendants are a delight to wear and appeal to my minimalist jewellery leanings.

I’ve found with frequent wear the matte oxy finish on the black ring is wearing away (it was brass that had been plated); in future I’ll make all three rings sterling and oxidise them the old fashioned way to ensure the finishes more easily withstand daily wear.
