Fragments: A disrupted journey

We drift through and find shelter in a place hollowed out by time and the elements. Above, the cracked ceiling lets in harsh sun and heavy rain. The walls crumble around us. Our skin hardens against the constant assault of gravel and broken glass. The detritus of industry. And everywhere, a pervasive miasma of dust.

We reflect each other as exactly as mirrors. If you hurt one of us, we both bleed.

We are collectors. We cut our fingers on splintered glass as sharp and brilliant as sunlight. We gather rough stones and twisted metal. Desolate structures, disordered geometries. Broken-down bricks and rusted metal and greying wood. We stalk through this fragmentary dream.

We are lost, but in each other we are found; sallow angels adrift on the lonely ocean.

Inspired by the detritus of industry, Drown’s sophomore collection – Fragments – is a beautifully androgynous, angular and exquisitely crafted collection that features clear asymmetrical shapes and protruding steel crystals. Designed to elicit dialogue between the wearer and viewer, the thirteen-piece collection encourages individual interpretations by inspiring the question rather than representing the answer.

The journey behind Fragments was shot on location at the abandoned Hoffman’s Brickworks in Brunswick, Victoria and was published last week on international fashion and photography online magazine PULP.

Fragments AW11 will be available through selected retailers across Australia and the UK in March. Visit drownjewellery.com.au to see the collection in full.

Scenes III

I was taking a break in the sun this afternoon when I spotted these beautiful textures behind the factory opposite ours. I still don’t really understand what it is they do over there but it’s noisy. As long as the residual debris keeps inspiring me  I’m happy to roll with it.
