If you follow my Instagram you’ll already be familiar with the Crystallum Ring, but I wanted to photograph it properly and share it formally.
I bought the quartz on a trip to Sydney in February last year and it had been sitting patiently in my studio for over a year before I finally set aside the time to make it into something. Although the back of the stone was mostly flat it wasn’t even; so I moulded the back of the stone and had it cast in sterling silver to make sure every nook and cranny fit perfectly like a puzzle piece. I soldered the double bands on the back after.
This is not a safe setting for this stone – it needs to be claw set but I did not have the time before fashion week. It is temporarily glued into place and when the glue wears away I will reset the stone properly.
The double bands at the back were not supposed to slant inward – unfortunately the poor ring took a ride in our washing machine after I got back from fashion week. Upon retrieval I discovered that the bands bent and I’ve not been bothered to fix them. But by some miracle the delicate quartz remained perfectly in tact, the silver even seemed to shine brighter.
The ring is one of a kind and is highly sentimental due to the acquisition of the quartz stone. A piece from my personal collection.
