The Cut

One sunny December afternoon, Holly-Rose and I were sharing a pot of tea and people watching when she suddenly exclaimed her burning desire to cut my hair. I immediately rejected the idea but Holly-Rose insisted that she’d get her scissors to my tresses one way or the other. Over the next few days she sent me e-mails exploding with pictures of gorgeous shoulder length haircuts and eventually broke down my resistance.
Hair is a funny thing; some people love reinventing their look frequently but I’d been stubbornly hanging onto my (very damaged) length for aeons. To what purpose was I so attached to it? Slowly, the idea of letting someone disconnect me from that meaningless stuff began to thrill me, and so on the last Thursday of 2011 I let her cut it off.
Although I’d rambled about it a little on Twitter, those closest to me were shocked that I’d gone through with it given my synonymous attachment to my length. Once the damage was gone, my ultra-fine hair revelled in it’s healthy freedom and the ends that normally had no bulk were now bursting with volume. We opted for a blunt cut but as a result I might have her cut some very subtle layers into the ends to have it sit a little sleeker around my shoulders.
I’m extraordinarily happy with it; a new look for a new year.

Magnet shared this comment on Jan 07 12 at 12:34 AMI think the hair cut looks really good on you. I’ve been thinking of cutting my hair to that length lately but my bf won’t let me. He wants my hair to be long and flowing, but it just feels gross now. Eh.
