Key Wardrobe Item: Knit Sweater

In my real wardrobe these items are:
Bonds T-shirt – American Apparel Fisherman Knit Sweater – Cheap Monday Jeans – Country Road Ballet Flats

In my real wardrobe these items are:
American Apparel Fisherman Knit Sweater – ASOS Chrome Cuffs – Rick Owens Wedge Boots – Alexander Wang Satchel – Supre Skirt

Lately all my outfits are revolving around my American Apparel Fisherman Knit Sweaters. They’re classic and comfortable, and I can style them a million different ways. I never feel particularly dressy in them, though. I can’t work out if it’s because they’re too casual or because I wear them so frequently that I’ve lost perspective on where they sit on the style spectrum.

I couldn’t find flat-lay images of the American Apparel sweaters online so I’ve substituted them for these similar knits by Steven Alan. The Wang T-shirt, Repetto Flats, Margiela Cuffs and Topshop Skirt are also flay-lay digital stand-ins for actual wardrobe items I own which I’ve annotated above.

What’s your key wardrobe item of late? Do you feel that after you’ve worn it a lot it’s less special?

Love the AA sweater, and I totally agree with not really feeling particularly dressy in them either. Stoked that you have that AW satchel, saw it on sale on a Shopbop notification email for a split second before it sold out, sigh.

Oversized knit sweaters are my wardrobe superheroes these days. Skinny jeans, boots, statement jewelry, go. It is so perfect for winter – when it is cold and dark and early I just don´t have the brain power to do a complicated outfit :)

I love knit sweaters in general, I think there are a few ways to make a sweater feel a little more dressy… it’s not easy though. I like these two representation images.

I’m finding that flattering, high quality mini skirts are my go to this summer. They are perfectly suited for the hot weather, but still maintain a dressier look. Also, I find that the more I wear something, the more special it is to me. Something that has been able to withstand the test of time both physically and emotionally is most special.

During the week my key item is a pair of black CR pants (as I’ve culled most other things suitable for work in this heat – hanging out for the US to buy new stuff) and over the weekend my wardrobe revolves around my IM dickers.
Those knits look ultra cozy.

great items.. the shoes on the second image are insanely cool… I think we all have that one piece of clothing you just can’t stop wearing.. like that one big black bag you take everywhere or the black ray ban sunglasses you always choose over the other ones you have… I think my key item of clothing would be a super comfy little black dress, super minimalist, jersey fabric.. nothing special to it but it just goes with anything and it’s always super sunny where I live so dresses, shorts or skirts are necessary.. cool blog, xoxo
