Uncertainty and infinite possibilities

If it’s been quiet around these parts I can reveal that on the other side of the monitor it’s been a tumultuous turn of affairs. Upon solemn contemplation I have begun setting about changes in my world — some sad, some exciting, some terrifying — but hopefully all leading towards good things.

My state of dress has become a reflection of my mood of late — although I was never one for ostentatious attire I’ve been feeling particularly withdrawn and reflective while calculating my next move. On top of this, my wardrobe is finally beginning to feel the effects of my change in diet (that I begun over a year ago) — and very few of my pants continue to fit me.

I hate almost all of my clothes except for my staples, and I have a compelling desire to purge everything. I will do this, but it will be a slow process. I am thinking to have a market stall towards the end of the year.

My black jeans have become my last lifeline it seems, my soft pullover provides comfort and perhaps the last person to jump on the boyfriend belt trend, I am now the proud owner of three different styles (two black, and one in that delightful shade of lolly pink I so despise yet somehow am attracted to).

My future is full of uncertainty for the first time in a long time, and although it fills me with feelings of fear and vulnerability, I know that uncertainty gives me the freedom of infinite possibilities.

I hope everything is all right. Whatever direction you take, I hope the best for you. BTW, your outfit is lovely. I am feeling the same way.

I’ve always loved this quote:

“When we walk to the edge of all the light we have and take the step into the darkness of the unknown, we must believe that one of two things will happen. There will be something solid for us to stand on or we will be taught to fly.”

(You can borrow it, if you like!)

I hope happy changes are around the corner, it sounds like you could use some good news. It’s always great to see your posts pop up in my google reader x

I like the simplicity of this look. The belt really takes things up a notch.

Hoping that you are ok and if you’re not that things will be better for you very soon.

Nope, I haven’t yet jumped on the bf belt trend :(

I really adore this outfit.

I’ve been secretly wishing summer gets on quicker as I’m so inspired by your outfits. Uncertainty is terrifying but also means your in for exciting, spontaneous, adventurous, surprises

I hope you are ok. We all go through these times in our lives and most of the time we come out of it better and wiser… So that there is your silver lining – look forward to this time :)
Btw you are looking great and would also be interested to read more about it (although I’m sure it doesn’t involve eating many macarons which is a little sad ;) )

you look wonderful and i never comment, but i miss your posts. oh purge purge purge! i recently starting my own closet curating project and i can tell you that it feels amazing to cut down your wardrobe to only your very essential favorites. you’ll feel so great :) and i think a lot of people are in the same boat, with how you feel about being vulnerable. maybe you’re like me and it’s somehow oddly strange and frightening to be living your life the way you want.

Thanks so much everyone for your kind words! Your thoughtful responses are warmly appreciated. I have such lovely readers!!

@ Karolina and Autumn – My diet has essentially revolved around a low-carb, low-sugar principle, but not as a short-term weight loss solution. This is a lifestyle change for me (and my family) as I suffer from some unidentified intolerances and have found that since changing the way I eat I no longer experience things like bloating or upset stomachs after I eat. I prefer to eat six small meals a day rather than three main ones which means I’m never really “hungry”. I have also swapped many of my favourite carbs for low-gi alternatives if I do feel the need to eat carbs (wholegrain bread, brown rice, etc), and I still allow myself treats in moderation (macaroons included!). I feel so much healthier and happier on this diet – I eat loads of lean protein and vegetables, I snack on raw nuts, raw veggies and sometimes low-fat dairy and sugar-free chocolate. But the important thing to note is that I did not just magically lose weight in six weeks. It has taken a year and a half for me to get to this point, it is a real commitment and it is about changing your attitude towards eating. When I have a big chicken salad for dinner my body feels awesome after and when I have McDonalds I don’t feel so great. I hope that helps :)

I just found your blog and I love it! I’ve been on the lookout for bloggers who wear mostly black, so yaaaay!

hang in there, girl. love this look, for what it’s worth — been feeling relatively minimalist myself lately and tired of a lot of my pieces, though that’s probably more to do with the suffocating weather here and an entire rack of drapey black wool holding little to no appeal at this point.

Thanks for your reply!
I am suppose to be seeing a dietician and food allergist soon… have issues with food also. You can be my role model ;)

I’m interested to know what direction you hope to take with your wardrobe? Your style has always been so minimalist and black (long time reader here).
Over the past year or so I have put on a few kilos (a mystery since I eat well) and as a result nothing fits… also anything that does still fit – I hate! I started a massive wardrobe cull and I am now in the process of building up my capsule wardrobe (however my idea of capsule wardrobe is different to the norm :) ) Look forward to seeing posts from the new you once you feel better. Good luck with things x

i am just now catching up to this (sorry for the lag). very inspirational and kind reply. sometimes bloggers do not take the time to reply to their readers, which is totally understandable, life can be crazy- but this is just another reason why you rule! keep your chin up + cheers to a healthy lifestyle change.
