Majorette

On a whim this afternoon Mother Ghost and I took a trip down to Collingwood Town Hall where Sass&Bide were holding one of their infamous warehouse sales. Although I managed to secure at least half a dozen pieces I was interested in as we shoved our way through the epic crowd, I didn’t end up taking too much away with me.

Amongst some smaller items though I did eventually succumb to The Majorettes floor-length military inspired coat. Reduced to just $120 from almost $900, it was the bargain I couldn’t afford not to buy. Not so suitable for the upcoming spring season maybe… but as Lana from FriggenAwesome noted on twitter – you can never have too many coats in Melbourne.

The Sass&Bide Melbourne Warehouse Sale is on from Thursday September 30 – October 3rd 2010 at Collingwood Town Hall.

Judith

A Perfect Circle recently announced their reunion and have scheduled tour dates in select cities across America. I’m personally terrified, because for me A Perfect Circle was the band that never sucked — they never had the chance because they broke up after two (and a half) albums due to Maynard’s prior commitments with Tool.

After they disbanded, guitarist and A Perfect Circle’s founder Billy Howerdel went on to start a new project he wrote and did vocals for, Ashes Divide. To my ears, his debut album Keep Telling Myself It’s Alright sounds just like the A Perfect Circle album that never was due to Howerdel’s distinct sound as a composer. I found that while Howerdel’s vocals are pleasant, his lyric writing is substantially weaker than Keenan’s and although assisted on a couple of tracks, the album is ultimately a mediocre piece of easy listening that doesn’t shine the way Howderdel’s previous work did in conjunction with Keenan in A Perfect Circle.

With the pending release of new material at “some point in the near future” as confirmed by Howerdel in an interview with Gun Shy Assasin, a part of me fears the band’s inevitable artistic decline suffered by many of our favourite artists over time.

I’ll never forget the first time I saw the video for Judith. I caught the announcement of a new “rock supergroup” as I was walking through the living room — and as they played the video I stood frozen, consuming the music with my eyes; mesmerised by the roughness of the footage and the mysteriousness of the musicians. A Perfect Circle’s debut album Mer De Noms went on to be one of my favourite albums of all time and is one of the namesakes of this blog.

Shattering Fast I’m Glass I’m Glass

All alone in my soul
I betrayed my rock and roll

Everybody knows I’m last I’m last
and everybody knows I’m fast I’m fast
I’m shattering, shattering glass
glass, glass, glass

I’m shattering fast
I’m shattering glass

Let it never be said that I don’t wear colours other than black! I seem to suit murky, moody tones best – no pastels or creamy shades because of my ultra-pale skin. Non-black tones I love wearing most include navy blue, charcoal grey, pure white and burgundy. Actually I prefer to call it garnet red because I feel burgundy lacks a certain depth. Like burgundy, garnet red is darker than normal red. It’s hypnotic, multi-faceted with tones of rust, scarlet and deep pink.

Old readers will remember the two fluoro red streaks I wore for several years in my hair – despite their fluorescence they were still in the garnet red spectrum so they were well suited, although faded too quickly to a sickly pinkish red. Needless to say my adoration for this spectrum carries on. Almost mindlessly I collate pieces of the same spectrum; sometimes IDENTICAL tones.

It was love at first sight when I pulled these shoes out of their box. Remembering back to when I’d purchased them; struggling to choose between the burgundy or grey – both tones would have been right at home in my closet but the red was intoxicating and they found their way into my shopping cart.

Despite being available on several online stores I ended up purchasing them on Endless.com using Paypal’s new international shipping service HopShopGo; by taking advantage of a discount, a free shipping and a reduced shipping offers – I paid just $125AU all up for  current season shoes that retail at $160AU on other online stores excluding shipping. Although HopShopGo is not always the most economical option, it was in this instance and I felt a little rush of adrenaline for having been so savvy.

To celebrate the launch of HopShopGo, Paypal are offering one Sea Of Ghosts’ reader the chance to win a $200 PayPal credit to spend using HopShopGo. ENTRIES ARE NOW CLOSED. You will be notified via e-mail if you have won.

Good luck!
