RAFW Christopher Esber

A surprising highlight for all who attended, this show was shrouded in controversy with rumours circulating that Esber only had three finished looks and might be cancelled. Perhaps that’s what drew the epic crowd to view Esber’s runway, but the loud standing ovation he received was evidence that Esber had the goods in more ways than one.

Esber’s clean aesthetic was intensified by the shocking tones of pure white and black throughout the collection.  Highly structured garments with an early 90′s minimalism also somehow seemed futuristic, with major references to reigning designers of the genre Helmut Lang and Calvin Klein.

The inspired collection will quickly propel Esber from being “that graduate who sent models down the runway with apples jammed into their mouths” to levels of acclaim more befitting of Australia’s new prince of minimalism.

Wow. I’m blown away. Who would have thought that cropped shirts would look so good. That’s my favourite from this collection.

Amazing! The shapes remind me of Calvin Klein circa 90′s. Thanks so much for the regular twitter/blog updates, you’re a star! ♥

Why does his name sound familiar? Where did he graduate from… and when? Cheers :)

I love the look on the left in the first photo. But then again, I love anything that smacks of Kubrick-style retro futurism.

The cropped-yet-poofy oxford shirts are totally weird in a way I can’t imagine many women wearing since they’re not even flattering on models, but besides that, pretty great stuff.
