What’s In My Bag?

It’s the world’s worst kept secret that I’m an accessories fiend. Although I don’t typically pile them on all at once (I’m all about the minimalism of a few well-chosen pieces), I take great pleasure in my ever-growing collection of adornments. Right now I’m using a black leather bag by Pink Corporation from a few seasons ago. The grain leather was over-dyed using an aniline process which has given it a super matte finish. The edges have been left raw which gives it a really soft worn-in feel like a favourite old t-shirt. I love the slight biker-feel the stud detailing gives it, too.

1. Cadelle Peta Turnlock Purse // I keep my Nine Inch Nails Spiral membership card where my ID should go.
2. Assorted Jewellery // There are always bits and pieces floating around at the bottom of my bag.
3. kikki.K Leather Business Card Holder // This holder has three compartments so I can store other people’s in there too.
4. Mints
5. Apple 8gb iPhone
6. Apple 30gb iPod Video
7. Mimco Pouches // The big one has make-up inside, the small one has band-aids, blotting papers and other tricky essentials.
8. Manicure Set  // I use this way more than I would have ever expected.
9. Keys // I used to have a tiny maraca key-ring that I was pretty famous for, but it broke and I’ve never found a replacement.
10. Loose change
11. Hair pins
12. Cheap Monday Sunglasses // It’s almost winter in Melbourne but there’s still a lot of glare when I drive.

What’s inside your bag?

Dachsing Around

MechanicalShdws and I headed into the city this afternoon to catch the last day of Bennett Miller’s Dachshund U.N. exhibit at the Melbourne Museum. Described as a joyful and chaotic experiment, it was a subtle political statement that was more adorable than it was controversial. A scale replica of a former U.N. office in Geneva, Switzerland, was constructed by Miller in the Melbourne Museum plaza. The structure played host to a meeting of the U.N.’s Commission on Human Rights, wherein all 47 of the national delegates were live dachshunds. I battled the enormous crowd to get right up close for photos, only to realise I’d brought the wrong lens and sadly didn’t get any blog-worthy images.

I was running late so I threw on my favourite fail-safe outfit. It’s always fun to play dress-ups with new things and take pictures, but I’m a real person and this is what I really wear. I was blisteringly poor the day I bought this amazing space print t-shirt but I wear it more often than anything else I own.

RAFW – Sim.me.ri.aN

The only other designer from Project Runway Australia Season 2 to have a collection on the RAFW runway this year was Ivana Stipicic presenting her label Sim.me.ri.aN’s debut collection. A personal journey to the lands of perpetual darkness, the initial inspiration behind the collection was sparked by the designer’s curiosity about the Vikings; then moved into a more abstract direction by dictating the temperament of a Vulture.

Sim.me.ri.aN subsequently won the New Generation show, impressing Australian fashion heavyweight judges Peter Morrissey, Alex Perry and Wayne Cooper. The hooded cape in the final look had studs going all the way down the back like some kind of punk dinosaur. Très amazement, do want.
